Architectural services were provided for this project, which is a 75% replacement of an existing elementary school. The design of the new facilities utilized two-story structures to keep as much of the existing open space available to the students and community for recreational use. The transition from the existing single-story existing to the new structures was made with a series of cascading roof planes. The roof is a simple gable, yet placed in a rotated position and lifted on one end to form a cascading transition from the one-story to the two-story structures. Classrooms are aligned, yet placed in a less formal position to create a safe courtyard/gathering space for the students. The windows are individual openings to resemble a residential style and enhance the continuity of the school to the neighborhood itself.
