This new 175,000 SF, preK-12 school is located in the San Luis Valley, near Mosca, Colorado. The facility consolidates the District's elementary, junior, and senior schools into a single facility. Funded in part from a Building Excellent Schools Trust (BEST) grant, the school provides vocational as well as academic programs and a new community center. The rural site required unique considerations, such as independent septic, water and irrigation, and fire suppression systems. This highly-sustainable school will be implementing a wide variety of sustainable strategies to achieve LEED Gold certification, such as a horizontal geothermal field, displacement ventilation network, heat recovery technologies, radiant flooring and base board heating, demand-based controls for lighting and mechanical systems, photovoltaic system, low-flow water fixtures, material selections, and xeriscape landscaping strategies. klipp, a division of gkkworks, provided architectural services for this project.
