gkkworks, provided architectural services for this project, located in the rapidly growing southeast quadrant of Cherry Creek School District. The prototypical 172,430 SF middle school represents the final component of a 6th- to 12th-grade campus plan. The two-story, walk-out design affords site adaptability when working with the dramatic variations of the topography within the region. In the development of this prototype design, fundamental objectives were established to reinforce best practices in school design, such as learning communities, daylighting, transparency, and definable zoning of the school. Located centrally between the learning communities is the academic center (media center and computer labs). A central daylight corridor becomes the organizing element, connecting the academic spaces with the exploratory and active spaces.
