New Mobile Switch Center

Verizon Wireless

Mililani, Hawaii

The greenfield Mobile Switch Center at the Verizon Mililani Technology Park is a 29,000-SF facility with future expansion capabilities for a second switch and DC power plant. gkkworks as the general contractor, constructed the new shell building, which includes the switch with switch control room, a fully provisioned 10,000A DC power plant, and a battery room with 18 strings of flooded cell batteries. In addition to the critical elements, the site also includes office areas, an employee cafeteria and conference rooms.

The HVAC ductwork, exhaust ductwork, DC power cabling and network cabling is located overhead. The basic building HVAC system consists of air cooled chillers serving chilled water air handling units at various locations through the building. One chilled water plant is served by three 100-ton scroll chillers with space for two future 100-ton scroll chillers. The ductwork system is sized to handle 150 watts/SF as a low pressure system to accommodate areas of the switch with high heat loads.
