Liberty Mutual, previously Safeco Insurance Company, focuses on serving the insurance needs of their clients. Having a reliable infrastructure that protects the availability and confidentiality of their client data is critical to their daily operations. Their goal was to mitigate the geographical risks inherent in maintaining their existing data center in Seattle. Our team was chosen to conduct a due diligence study for a disaster recovery data center to support overall business operations in the event of a natural disaster and to drive the site selection process.
Our team conducted an engineering/construction analysis of over 100 facilities and determined the limitations of each facility from a purchasing and design viewpoint. Final analysis by our team resulted in the selection of a facility in Colorado, resulting in a savings of $2,000,000 based on location. We were then contracted as the design/builder to provide full architectural, engineering design, general contracting, and system commissioning for completion of the data center fit out. The scope of work included: strengthening of the existing shell building; two new fully redundant electrical utility transformers and new utility section; fit out of the 10,000 SF raised floor data center; and the supporting central utilities (standby power generators and fuel, new critical power/UPS systems with 2N redundancy, new chilled water plant with water side economizer, installation of 600-ton chilled water tower, heat exchanger and controls).
