Smoke Tree Commons is an 18.5 acre community shopping center located in the exclusive Smoke Tree community of Palm Springs, California. This center has 200,000 SF of specialty retailers, restaurants and financial services placed into the desert environment. The project has a very distinctive Palm Springs architectural style using strong architectural forms constructed with pre-cast concrete, decorative masonry, smooth plaster walls and contrasted with white fabric structures. The Earth tone colors of soft sand and deep browns were selected to complement the distinctive desert colors surrounding the site.
The major tenant buildings are a combination of masonry and wood frame envelopes with a hybrid roof structure with masonry and stucco finishes and unique monolithic textured cast-in place planters at the entrances. The interior finishes were constructed in accordance with tenant criteria. The improvements required coordination with various national vendors for materials and installation.
The shop and financial services buildings are wood framed with stucco finishes and unique monolithic textured cast in place planters and metal canopies at the entrance. Interiors finishes were a combination of shell and vanilla shell build outs to accommodate owners leasing program.
Site amenities included tensile fabric structures, desert landscaping, and decorative pedestrian and accent lighting. This project was in collaboration with Cioffi Architects.
