The construction of the United Bank Tower was part of a comprehensive master plan for this mixed-use redevelopment in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. This urban in-fill redevelopment contains 1.5 million SF of office, hotel, conference, and retail space. gkkworks both master planned and designed all structures, and renovated buildings within the three-city block district. The new tower and two-acre plaza were constructed above a multilevel parking structure. The 16-story office tower (now the Wells Fargo Bank Tower) was constructed over a three-level, 800-space parking garage. The two-city block original 1960s complex included the Holly Sugar Building office tower—also renovated as part of this project—in addition to the Antlers Hilton Hotel. The existing hotel underwent extensive renovation including demolition of the 12-story hotel back to its internal structure, replacing the building skin and adding two additional floors for hospitality and conference suites. The renovation of the civic block included the creation of a two-acre urban plaza above an existing parking structure.
